Challenging or distressed behaviour can be described as:-
“ Any behaviour that poses a risk to the individual or others, or behaviour which makes it difficult to carry out clinical tasks or acts of personal care”.
It may also be behaviour that is considered to be socially unacceptable or offensive to others.
The purpose of this session is to:-
- Provide an awareness of types of challenging and distressed behaviours
- Consider possible causes for the behaviour
- Consider strategies for assessing challenging behaviour
- Consider ways to de-escalate, reduce or minimise harm caused by these behaviours.
